How it scored

Scored on our fixed 5-part system — built from the consensus of field reports, video tests and hunter feedback. Each axis is an independent 0–10 score. How we score ↗

What we liked

  • Premium S30V knife-grade steel
  • Big wound channels with bleeders
  • Excellent penetration
  • Field-proven on hogs, bear, elk, moose
  • Holds a keen edge

Where it falls short

  • Cut-out COC, not true one-piece COC
  • Some rank Iron Will tougher
  • Premium price
  • Heavier head requires tuning

Flight & accuracy

The Legend's one-piece machined zero-taper ferrule gives it a rigid, well-balanced platform, and the samurai-curved blades fly cleanly. With proper tuning it holds with field points, and the available 175-grain option lets hunters dial in high front-of-center setups that fly like darts.

It's a heavier, more substantial head than a lightweight whitetail offering, so it rewards a tuned bow and proper arrow setup. Once squared away, the flight is excellent.

Penetration

Penetration is excellent. The combination of S30V steel, the curved cut-on-contact geometry, and the heavy grain options drives the Legend deep, and it has been field-proven punching through hogs, bear, elk, and even moose. This is a head built for the biggest game on the continent.

The two main blades plus two bleeders cut a substantial path without sacrificing the drive you need on heavy bone. It's a true big-game head that doesn't trade penetration for cutting width.

Durability & edge retention

The S30V steel at roughly 59 HRC is knife-grade and holds a keen edge through demanding shots. The .062" main blades are stout, and the head has earned a reputation for surviving the toughest game.

The honest nuance from hardcore users is that the Legend is described as a "cut-out" cut-on-contact head rather than a true monolithic one-piece COC like the Iron Will, and some rank Iron Will above it on ultimate durability. For nearly all hunters, though, the Legend's toughness is more than sufficient.

Blood trail

The two-main-plus-two-bleeder configuration opens big wound channels, and the up-to-1 3/8" cut throws heavy blood. Combined with the deep penetration, that means double-sided wounds and short, easy recoveries on well-placed shots.

This is where the bleeder design pays off versus a single-plane head: you get both the penetration of a stout cut-on-contact and the heavy blood of a multi-blade. The Legend leaves serious sign.

Value & who it's for

At around $90 for three, the Legend is firmly in premium territory, and the value question comes down to how much you value S30V steel and proven big-game performance. Some hunters feel the Iron Will edges it out for the money on pure durability.

It's the head for the serious big-game hunter chasing elk, bear, or moose who wants a knife-grade head that opens big holes and has the field record to back it up. If you primarily hunt whitetail, cheaper heads will do the job, but for the toughest game the Legend earns its keep.

FAQ

Is the Solid Legend good for elk and moose?

Yes. The Solid Legend is field-proven on hogs, bear, elk, and moose. Its S30V steel, heavy grain options up to 175 grains, and curved cut-on-contact geometry give it the penetration needed for the largest North American game while its bleeders open big wound channels.

Is the Solid Legend a true one-piece cut-on-contact head?

Not quite. Hardcore reviewers describe the Solid Legend as a machined cut-out cut-on-contact head rather than a true monolithic one-piece COC like the Iron Will. For nearly all hunters its toughness is more than sufficient, but purists note this distinction.

How does the Solid Legend compare to Iron Will?

Both are premium big-game heads. The Solid Legend uses knife-grade S30V steel and adds bleeders for bigger wound channels, while some hunters rank the Iron Will higher on ultimate one-piece durability. The Legend often comes in at a slightly lower price for three.

What steel is the Solid Legend made from?

The Solid Legend's main blades are S30V, a premium knife-grade powder steel hardened to roughly 59 HRC and ground to .062" thick, paired with two bleeder blades. This steel holds a keen edge through demanding shots on tough game.

Iron Will S-Series

If your budget allows it, the S-Series is as close to a buy-once broadhead as the market offers: it flies like a dart, shrugs off bone, and resharpens for years. The only real question is whether you can stomach the price.

The Wide trades a sliver of the S-Series' bottomless penetration for a dramatically bigger hole and faster, more obvious blood. On deer- and bear-class game it is arguably the more practical Iron Will.
